Sidney’s Candy favorite in LaJolla

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Tomorrow’s G2 LaJolla at Del Mar is the race of the day. Get free past performances here.

Sidney’s Candy worked a bullet on the Del Mar turf five days ago and opens at 7 – 5 for trainer John Sadler.

Joel Rosario takes over for Joe Talamo who is out for a month with a wrist injury.

Sidney’s Candy cuts back to 1 1/16 miles after racing in the summer series for three-year olds including his win over Lookin At Lucky in the Santa Anita Derby over the synthetic surface and will try turf for the first time in the afternoon.

He’ll have plenty of company from Macias for Bob Baffert.

Free Past Performances and Horse Racing Tips forever

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Call it crazy. Call it sane. Either way I’m giving it all away!

If you think you can pick horse races then keep reading because superstition is a gamblers nightmare. You know what I mean.

Like when you’re on your way to the window or you’re standing in line to bet and you hear the guy next to you buying tickets with your number on it. It’s like a stab in the back because we’re all geniuses, right?

There’s no way that anyone else could have come up with the same horse as you because — well there’s only 12 horses in the race and there’s 10,000 people standing next to you.

Earlier I tweeted the selections for the G2 $600,000 Virginia Derby to be run later today at Colonial Downs.

If you missed the tweet you should start following me on Twitter too!

Here’s the selections for today’s Race of the Day and remember to pick up a copy of the Free Past Performances courtesy of DRF.com.

Selections: 3-8-2-7

Yep, that’s right. Bet against Paddy O’ Prado today.

Franny Freud favorite in Prioress

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

The G1 Prioress has attracted only five runners but each of the three-year old fillies offers something to consider.

The favorite is Franny Freud who has won her last three races including a restricted race for New York breds while beating male runners. She’s 7 to 5 for trainer John Terranova who is winning at a twenty-six percent clip.

The Acorn winner, Champagne d’ Oro, enters with a fast bullet workout and appears to be primed for another top performance but gets a new rider in Miguel Mena. She’s still eligible for NW3 lifetime.

Bonnie Blue Flag comes in after a big win at Lone Star Park. Prior to that she had raced on the So.Cal circuit where she won two in a row on synthetic surfaces before making the switch to dirt. She’s by Mineshaft and will be tough today.

Funny Feeling and Stormandaprayer round out the field. The later just broke her maiden and appears to be overmatched in here.

Golden legs in winners’ circle

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

On Tuesday, the Kentucky Racing Commission approved a new advertising rule as it relates to sponsorships and endorsements worn on jockey’ pants despite opposition to the changes from horsemen, including Churchill Downs representatives, jockeys, trainers and owners, who say that “sponsors may not want to be disclosed.” But the idea that some sponsors might ‘not want to be disclosed’ to a regulating agency or the public makes no sense when talking about sponsorship unless the money, message, and motive don’t add up. Commission member Ned Bonnie said “Transparency is like soap…It cleans up a lot of things.” That’s a fitting response considering the level of interest in, and ultimate success, of ‘the sport of kings’ relies on believing that all the kings men are playing fair.

Ultimately, before each race, the stewards are responsible for approving any advertising worn by a jockey. And that’s after the jockey has submitted the “Request to Wear Advertising and Promotional Material” form him or herself. If they want to realize the full value of their legs in the winner’s circle. And with the Breeder’s Cup scheduled for November 5 and 6, 2010 the world’s spotlight will be on the winners’ circle.

The explanation of the regulation governing the wearing of advertising by jockeys makes it pretty clear that the jockey is a representative of the sport just like a football or basketball player represents ‘the game’ and not their self and are just players on the stage set by a commission.

In other news, Greta Kuntzweiler was issued a license after review of her suspension in 2007 for an admitted drug violation. Look forward to Greta making a strong comeback and a return to the winner’s circle at Turfway Park later this year.
