Steeped in tradition dating back to the 1800′s when horse racing was an everyday event men and women of New Orleans gathered to enjoy winter horse racing American style at the second oldest racetrack in the country.  The Fair Grounds has long been the place where champion thoroughbreds provide the opportunity for a day of fun and entertainment and a chance to bet the races.

This year opening weekend coincided with the Breeders’ Cup and we begin our coverage of the usual suspects of trainers, owners, and jockeys who make the trek down south each winter to compete for top purse money.  Under the expert management of Churchill Downs, Inc. the Fair Grounds is the Risen Star of racing in the south and a welcome retreat from the troubles of Hurricane Katrina.
