United Nations Stakes headlines weekend racing

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

Monmouth Park cards two “win and your in” Breeder’s Cup Challenge races this weekend.

In the United Nations some of the best turf horses in the country will compete for the top prize from the purse of $750,000. Locally based Presious Passion was a wire-to-wire winner in last year’s edition and leads the other seven runners to post and will likely be on the lead barring any unforeseen missteps.

Lauro looks to be the one who will be chasing Precious Passion and gets a new rider in Jorge Chavez and today’s distance appears to be where he performs best. He exits the G1 Manhattan as does several other runners in here but with all the rider changes on horses exiting the Manhattan it appears that race won’t provide the winner today.

Strike A Deal finished second to Presious Passion in last years running of the United Nations and appears to be one of the main rivals again this year.

Banrock was the runner up to Presious Passion in his last start and gets a new rider in Joe Bravo who has always been a leading rider at Monmouth. He will be closing late to just get beat a nose in his first race over the Monmouth Park turf course. He will likely be closing again but without much competition on the front-end for Presious Passion he’ll have to work to get up.

The likely scenario sees Presious Passion winning the race on the lead with Strike A Deal again running second and Banrock completing the trifecta.

Birdstone was the No. 4 in 2004 Belmont

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

So what you might say. Well, not much else to say except coincidental is all.

Loved Birdstone that year.

Convinced that the Triple Crown may be a thing of the past until this year when two “sons of stone” impressed the racing world winning two thirds of America’s greatest horse racing achievement the Triple Crown. And 2009 will be a year remembered as the year that a filly named Rachel Alexandra had every right to be considered the real victor having upset Mine That Bird in the Preakness.

The 2009 Breeder’s Cup is scheduled for November and horse racing will continue to race its way into a virtual world where on track and live horse racing will be broadcast live over the internet from streaming media outlets.

We are in the process of redesigning the Bugboy.net website.

The new direction will follow the style of the daily racing form, America’s Turf Authority, and will allow visitors to share their opinions on articles written by our contributors.

The number of visitors who follow us has grown exponentially and we look forward to giving you the opportunity to give feedback to other readers.

We will have new tools and tips for handicappers and novices to the sport of horse racing.

Horse racing as a sport is struggling to survive and if it is to do so then the breeders, owners, trainers, and jockeys need to be aware that the betting public is paying attention.

The game has changed dramatically since the breakout of simulcast racing and the desire to win at any cost by the owners is a big part of the problem that the industry faces.

The image of the sport has been damaged and cannot rely on the seasoned gambler to continue to support the sport. They must bring new interest to the sport but it won’t be possible with stories of trainer suspensions for drug violations and race fixing by jockeys.
