Breeder’s Cup Challenge

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

We’ve added a chart to our Breeder’s Cup page where you can follow along with the winners of each of the challenge races leading up to the Breeder’s Cup Championships.

The “win and your in” format was introduced in 2007. Click here to read more about how the process works.

This is from the official site.

Breeders’ Cup Limited and several of the nation’s premier racetracks will feature a set of officially sanctioned Breeders’ Cup qualifying races once again in 2009. The Breeders’ Cup Challenge series is highlighted by its ‘Win and You’re In’ provision, with the winner of each of the Challenge races automatically qualifying for the corresponding divisional race in the two-day, fourteen-race, $25.5 million Breeders’ Cup World Championships, to be held November 6 and 7 at Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California.

The next two challenge races will be contested at Monmouth Park on July 4, 2009 and we’ll be updating the chart accordingly.

Birdstone was the No. 4 in 2004 Belmont

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

So what you might say. Well, not much else to say except coincidental is all.

Loved Birdstone that year.

Convinced that the Triple Crown may be a thing of the past until this year when two “sons of stone” impressed the racing world winning two thirds of America’s greatest horse racing achievement the Triple Crown. And 2009 will be a year remembered as the year that a filly named Rachel Alexandra had every right to be considered the real victor having upset Mine That Bird in the Preakness.

The 2009 Breeder’s Cup is scheduled for November and horse racing will continue to race its way into a virtual world where on track and live horse racing will be broadcast live over the internet from streaming media outlets.

on iberianet.com about Calvin Borel after the Crown.

When the tote board flashed official on this year’s Belmont Stakes the winner wasn’t Mine That Bird but the other son of Birdstone, who upset Smarty Jones bid for Triple Crown glory in the 2004 Belmont, Summer Bird.

There’s going to be a lot of second guessing of the approach Calvin Borel took to his first ride at Belmont since the early 80′s. And even though he had never ridden in the Belmont before Saturday he was defiant in pursuit of a win. It’s pointless to go on anymore about the “personal triple crown” story that was used by the media to create Belmont buzz.
